Big news from within Marvel Studios
With the runaway success of Iron Man 3, all eyes are on Marvel Studios to see where they go next. A couple of pretty big stories have leaked recently which perhaps point us in the right direction regarding their Phase 2 plans and beyond.
Contract re-negotiations in the wake of ‘The Avengers’ success
With ‘Iron Man 3’ ending Robert Downey Jr.’s multi picture contract with Marvel Studios, Disney execs are apparently in deep conversations to secure RDJ’s services for ‘Avengers 2 & 3’. With Downey Jr. not keen to return for any further Iron Man installments, he’s not ruled out rounding out the Avengers trilogy. However, with his reported $50 million pay day for the first Avengers and the flick finishing up as the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time, it’s likely Disney will have to dig deep to get RDJ back into the suit.
Also, if rumours are to be believed, it’s not just Tony Stark who’s looking to re-negotiate, with Chris Hemsworth and Scarlet Johansson both looking for a larger slice of a pretty massive pie. As long as the drama off screen doesn’t overshadow the drama on screen, we’ll be happy. We have faith that Sir Whedon will steer the good ship Avengers in the right direction. Even if negotiations fall flat, the next story shows that they have plenty of replacements lined up…
Several properties back at Marvel Studios
We posted about the rights to ‘Daredevil’ reverting to Marvel Studios last week, but since then, it’s been revealed that a number of other properties have also made it back to the mother ship. Joining the blind lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen is Ghost Rider and Luke Cage & his partner Iron Fist. Along with previously announced reclaimed properties such as Blade and The Punisher, Marvel Studios is building a pretty strong roster that will surely keep them going long past Phase 3. Which brings us to our next story…
Marvel have scripts written for a Blade reboot, Runaways and Ms. Marvel
It’s been revealed that Marvel have several writing programs to develop scripts for many of their ever growing list of properties. Reportedly, they have a reboot of Blade, plus a Ms. Marvel script both at first draft stage. The often rumoured ‘Runaways’ script is also potentially still on the table after being put on hold a couple of years ago. While these may never pass the initial draft stage, it’s good to know that Marvel aren’t ruling anything out and plans are afoot for Phase 4 and beyond.

If we do get a Runaways movie I am REALLY hoping that it’s going to be good…I am both excited and nervous because I really want a Runaways movie but at the same time I really don’t want a terrible one that ends up completely screwing up the characters…
Hopefully they get a good writer/director and a good cast for it…and keep it 100% faithful to the comics <3
